Putting in place the online registration tool for Kilke was not the easiest of processes, but the system is now working and also the foreign guides and scouts can start registering themselves to the camp. The registration takes place through a group leader, who will collect registration forms for his/her group and insert everyone's information to the system. The reason for the lengthy process was that for the first time also international participants will be registered through the online member registry of the Guides and Scouts of Finland. Having every camp participant in the same system brings so many benefits that it was worth the effort, I think.
"Online" is of course the catchword in everything these days as more and more services are used through the web. For me, scouting also mostly takes place online at the moment; living abroad and trying to organise a camp in Finland. But even with email, shared files and meetings by skype, one feels that something is missing. That is why I am very pleased to be able to schedule some of my visits to Finland so that I can participate in meetings with my team and other people planning Kilke. Nothing beats face-to-face meetings when building a team spirit - which is so important for organising a great camp.
At the time of writing, a few days before Christmas, next summer and Kilke still seem far away. We have a lot of snow and quite a cold weather even in Southern Finland now, and this year it will definitely be a white Christmas. The Christmas and New Year holidays are a time of peace and quiet and spending time family; the next summer's camp does not necessarily occupy a large place in one's mind. But even so, the registration is ongoing and the last date to register is fast approaching. Watch the Kilke Christmas video in Youtube to combine the Christmas spirit with the Kilke chime; and please do not forget to register! By the way, I have to remember to register to do it myself as well.. Let me wish you all a very merry holiday season and some continuous B-P spirit to your new year.
